Reviewing your business

Reviewing your business

At this time of year we always bang on about setting goals for the new year and how important goals are for your business. What we don’t mention enough is reviewing your business in detail.

December is the perfect time to reflect on your business. The year goes so quickly and you can quite often forget about all of the things you have accomplished over the year.

Set time aside this month to really think about what 2023 has meant for your business.

Think about your business month on month. Did you achieve any of your goals you set yourself last year? Have you celebrated each goal you’ve met, no matter how small? Celebrating your ‘wins’ plays an important part in your motivation. All of the smaller milestones you hit build up to the bigger goals.

We always encourage our clients to monitor their progress on at least a quarterly basis. Our management accounts service gives you an insight into the future of your business and helps you to identify areas of your business that need you most.

It’s great to highlight the areas of your business that have excelled but you should also take into consideration anything which needs improvement. Think about what could have been done better. By doing this it will help you to set out your goals for the new year and by concentrating on specific areas and putting more effort in where it’s needed will mean your business can only get better and stronger.

This year we’ve been nominated for numerous awards which has meant we’ve needed to really think about our business and how far we’ve come over the years. This process gives you a great sense of achievement and I strongly recommend every business makes the time to really reflect on their journey. From starting a business alone as a Sole Trader amid a covid pandemic to building a team of 5 and becoming VAT registered and Limited it just shows how far your business can grow in a short space of time. Imagine where you will be this time next year! I know I’m excited about the prospect, you can be too!

I’d love to hear about your business journey. Feel free to pop me an email and share yours!

Trivial benefits are a UK tax rule that lets directors and employees receive small perks tax-free, as long as you stick to HMRC’s conditions. Done properly, they’re a neat little win: a morale boost for you or your team, without creating extra tax, National Insurance, or admin.

Running a charity is about impact; supporting people, funding vital services, and making a real difference in your community. But behind every successful charity is something far less visible (and often far less loved): the finances.

If you work in construction, you already know it’s not a “simple” business. You’ve got multiple jobs on the go, materials flying in and out, subcontractors, vans, tools, and payments that don’t always land when you expect them to.

setting goals is one thing, but achieving them? That’s where the real work begins. And that’s exactly where your bookkeeper comes in.

For beauty business owners, managing cash flow can feel like a full-time job in itself. With the constant juggle of appointments, product orders, staff schedules, and client payments, it’s easy for finances to slip down the priority list.
