Why do I need to refresh my bank feed?

Why do I need to refresh my bank feed?

Your bank feed is a vital aspect of our Xero bookkeeping process. Having your bank feed connected gives us access to real time data to allow us to accurately process your bookkeeping.

Setting up your bank feed is so easy to do, gone are the days of having to go into the bank and fill out loads of paperwork. Just a few clicks of a button online and the bank feed will be in place.

Refreshing your bank feed

For security reasons you will need to refresh your bank feed every 90 days. This may seem like a pain but it’s to make sure that the feed from your bank to your Xero account isn’t corrupted so that your information is secure and safe. Unfortunately this process has to be done by yourself and not by Bluebells Bookkeeping as it needs to be the account holder who authorises the feed.

To do this, simply sign in to Xero and go to the accounting tab, along the top click bank accounts> renew bank feed, then you will be prompted to login to your online banking. You will need your account details and transaction history to hand for security reasons. Doing this gives us access to your bank account transactions without needing your online banking login.

Although we have access to your bank transactions we do ask that you still submit your monthly  bank statements to us to double check that the bank feed is running correctly.

What if I don’t refresh?

It’s important that you do refresh your bank feed when prompted by us. This will ensure true accuracy and consistency of your bookkeeping. Without your bank feed we have no real time data which makes our job more difficult and we will require more information from you. So it’s vital that you refresh your feed as soon as we prompt you to do so.

How secure is it?

You can be assured that Xero has security as their priority. All data which is stored by Xero is encrypted. They have various levels of firewalls protecting your data which is monitored 24/7. Regular security audits are carried out and Multi-Factor Authentication is now essential on your Xero account.

If you have any problems refreshing your feed or getting it set up, please get in touch.
